چکیده

Multi-antenna transmission modes are an integral feature of the 3GPP LTE downlink. While these modes are well defined in the standard there are no restrictions on the choice of transmit and receive antennas. In order to investigate the impact of the basestation antenna configuration on the LTE open loop downlink, a measurement campaign, comparing horizontally and vertically spaced antenna configurations for the two and four antenna case was performed whereas a considerable difference in performance depending on the antenna configuration is observed. Besides the evaluation in terms of LTE physical layer throughput the channel capacity and other measures have been calculated as upper bounds for the performance of a communication system. A comparison of the results for one, two and four transmit antennas shows that less than 50% of the channel capacity are reached and the higher the number of transmit antennas, the larger the gap between channel capacity and achievable throughput.

Uplink-Downlink LTE Multi Cell Capacity: A Performance Analysis in the Presence of ICI, Imperfect Channel Information and Reuse-1 Plan

Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology is based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) technique in the downlink to support multiple users in the same cell at the same time. Such system is known to be susceptible to Inter Cell Interference (ICI) in the downlink. The uplink technology of choice, however, has been SC-FDMA due to low power consumption requirement by the mobile term...

Effect of Antenna Spacing on the Performance of Multiple Input Multiple Output Lte Downlink in an Urban Microcell

ABSTRACT The paper presents design of a 2×2 multiple input multiple output (MIMO) LTE Downlink using OFDM with 16-QAM scheme, operated in a spatial Multiplexing (SM) mode. An urban Microcell Winner channel model is assumed to investigate the performance of the system. The focus of this paper is to understand the effect of antenna spacing of end transceivers on the performance of 2×2 MIMO LTE Do...

A Multiband Multiple-input Multiple-output Antenna System for Long Term Evolution and Wireless Local Area Networks Handsets

A novel multiband multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system is proposed. The MIMO antenna system consists of two antenna elements, each of which comprises of three radiators: a driven monopole, an S-shaped strip and an inverted F-shaped strip and occupies footprint of 15x18.5x0.8 mm3 only. The driven monopole acts as a quarter-wave monopole and stimulate higher mode resonance. The tw...

Unified Multi-Mode Signal Detector for LTE-A Downlink MIMO System

This paper presents a low power and small area multi-mode MIMO detector targeting the LTE-A downlink. The detector supports the detection of spatial-multiplexing, spatialdiversity, and space-division-multiple-access MIMO signals of different antenna configurations and modulation schemes. Costefficiency is achieved by algorithm and architecture co-design where low-complexity, near-maximum-likeli...
